AI and automation updates, 2 October 2026
Four launches today. Two could help a small business soonest: Microsoft's voice models and Cloudflare's tool for cutting AI costs.
Microsoft launches voice models for live transcription and reading text aloud
On 1 October, Microsoft released three voice models. One turns speech into text as people talk, in 60 languages. The other two read text aloud, in 23 languages. Microsoft says they are available now through its Foundry platform.
Developers can use them to build phone or voice-chat assistants. Transcription costs $0.54 per hour of audio until the end of the year. Reading aloud costs $22 per million characters, or $15 for the faster version. Microsoft doesn't say whether Indonesian is one of the languages. If you want a voice assistant for your shop, ask your developer to check that first.
Cloudflare's Auto Router sends each AI request to the cheapest model that can do it
Cloudflare added Auto Router to its AI Gateway on 30 September. The gateway is a service that sits between an app and the AI it uses. It's in public beta, which means anyone can try it but it may still change. Cloudflare's own tests showed savings of up to 30% compared with always using a top model.
It is free during the beta, for people already using AI Gateway. If you pay for an AI tool that your developer built, ask whether it could use this. Nothing to do if you only use ChatGPT or Claude directly.
Amazon releases a small AI that picks from a list of choices
Amazon's AWS released Strands Decider 2B on 1 October. It doesn't write text. It looks at a situation, scores the answers a developer gives it, and says how sure it is. Amazon says it answers in about a tenth of a second on a normal graphics card.
It is free and open source, so developers can run it on their own computer. The announcement doesn't say whether it works well in Indonesian. Nothing to do yet.
Claude Code now lets developers add "mods"
Anthropic launched mods for Claude Code on 1 October. Mods are small pieces of code that change how the tool behaves or looks. For example, they can rewrite a prompt or block an action. Anthropic warns that mods have full access to your computer, so install only ones you trust.
This only matters if your developer uses Claude Code. Nothing to do yet.
