Gemini 4 Argon is in the Gemini app: should you try it?
On 13 October 2026, Google made Gemini 4 Argon available in the Gemini app. My verdict: if you already pay for Google AI Pro, try it on one real task this week. If you don't, there's no need to subscribe just for this.
What changed
Google says Argon is now in the Gemini app for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, "starting today". The post doesn't say whether free users get it. Google's announcement lists these changes:
- Better answers. Google says Argon reasons better on complex tasks, answers more directly and repeats itself less.
- Tasks. A toggle in the main chat window switches Gemini from chat to tasks. In tasks mode, Gemini can keep working across your Google apps even when you're away from your computer.
- Connected apps. Gemini links to more than 40 apps. Google names Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify.
- Coding. Google says coding improved. The Gemini app on Mac now has Google Antigravity, a tool where Gemini writes code for you.
Why it matters for a small business
The tasks toggle is the part to watch. Most AI chat tools wait for you to type. This one is meant to keep going on a job after you walk away.
Picture a café owner who asks Gemini to find a venue for a staff dinner and book a table. Google lists OpenTable, a table-booking service, among the connected apps.
The Shopify link may matter if you sell online. Google links a help page for it. The post doesn't say what Gemini can do inside a shop.
What to do now
If you pay for AI Pro or Ultra, run one small test. Pick a job you do every week and that costs you little if it goes wrong.
Copy this and adjust it:
Draft a reply to this customer enquiry, check my Google Calendar for free times next week, and suggest three slots. Don't send anything. Show me the draft first.
Then check the result yourself. If it saves you ten minutes and the draft needs few edits, keep using it for that job. If not, you've lost nothing.
If you're on the free plan, wait. Nothing in Google's post says free users get Argon, and nothing here is urgent.
The catch
- Indonesia is not confirmed. Google's post doesn't list countries or languages. Check inside your own app before you pay.
- Price and usage limits are not stated beyond "AI Pro and Ultra".
- Developer access is not confirmed. The post doesn't mention an API (the way other software plugs into Gemini), so don't plan a customer-facing automation around it yet.
- Tasks act on your accounts. Give it low-risk jobs first and read what it did. Keep customer data out of anything you wouldn't want an AI tool to see.
- Google's claims are Google's. The post gives no test results, so "better reasoning" is unproven until you try it on your work.
A one-off test in a chat app is easy. Automation that answers customers every day, with your rules and your booking system, is a different job. If you want help with that, book a free consultation.
