ChatGPT "dots": an AI helper that never clocks out

On 29 September 2026, OpenAI announced "dots" at its DevDay event. A dot is an AI agent, a program that does tasks for you, inside ChatGPT. It keeps working after you close the chat.

The short verdict: it's interesting, but wait. It only comes with expensive plans, and OpenAI hasn't said if it reaches Indonesia.

What a dot is

Normal ChatGPT answers when you ask, then waits. A dot keeps going on its own. You give it a goal, and it works on it in the background.

Each dot gets its own cloud computer and web browser. It runs on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's top model (the "brain" behind ChatGPT), and connects to more than 4,000 apps. OpenAI's own example is a dot that found a forgotten invoice, pulled out the details and drafted it for approval. Source

Who gets it, and what it costs

Dots are rolling out now, but only on some plans:

  • Included: ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium plans. The first dot is free.
  • Not included: Free, Go, Plus and standard Business plans.
  • Beta: Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces, once an admin turns it on.
  • Extra dots: OpenAI says it will sell them later, at a price it hasn't shared. Source

The Pro plan is $200 a month, according to Fortune. Check OpenAI's pricing page for Business Premium before you decide.

Is it available in Indonesia?

OpenAI hasn't said. Pro users in the EU, Switzerland and the UK are left out for now. Business Premium gets dots "in all supported regions", and Indonesia isn't named for either plan. Source

Treat Indonesia as unconfirmed until you see a dot in your own account.

The catch

  • It can make mistakes. OpenAI says so itself: review any work that matters.
  • You set the limits. A dot has four levels of freedom: act alone, act if pre-approved, ask first, or hand the job to you. Password changes always need your approval.
  • Setup is on a desktop only. You can't create a dot from your phone yet.
  • Deleting its memory means deleting the dot. Source
  • Customer data needs thought. A dot works inside your accounts. Decide what it may read before you connect anything.

What this means for you

  • Already on Business Premium? Try your free dot on something low-risk, like a weekly summary of unpaid invoices. Keep it on "ask first".
  • Not on a qualifying plan? Don't upgrade just for this. Extra dots have no price, and Indonesia isn't confirmed.

The big AI companies are clearly moving toward helpers that never stop. It's good to know what they can do, even if you aren't ready to pay for one.
