QRIS Fee Is 0% on Small Payments From 1 October
From 1 October 2026, Bank Indonesia stopped charging a fee on small QRIS payments for every kind of business. If you take QRIS, you now pay 0% on payments up to Rp100,000. The change applies by itself, so you don't need to sign up for anything.
What changed
The fee is called MDR (merchant discount rate). It is the small cut a business pays each time a customer pays by QRIS. Bank Indonesia announced the change on 17 August 2026, and it took effect on 1 October.
- Micro businesses (UMI): 0% continues for payments up to Rp500,000.
- All other business sizes: 0% now also applies to payments up to Rp100,000.
Before this, Bank Indonesia's own explainer lists 0.7% for small, medium and large businesses. That page gives the rates in force since 15 March 2025.
Why it matters for a small business
Most café, shop and salon payments are small. Take an Rp80,000 order as an example. At 0.7% the fee was Rp560. It is now Rp0. The saving is small per sale but it adds up across a month of daily orders.
It also removes one reason to push customers toward cash. Bank Indonesia says you can't pass this fee on to customers. A lower fee goes straight to your margin.
What to do now
- Check your last QRIS settlement. Open your bank or payment provider's app and compare a payment under Rp100,000 before and after 1 October. The fee line should read zero.
- Ask your provider if it doesn't. Say you are a small, medium or large merchant and refer to the Bank Indonesia policy effective 1 October 2026.
- Keep QRIS visible. Put the QR code at the counter and on your order or booking messages. Paying by QRIS is now the cheapest option for small orders.
- Don't change prices yet. Wait for one full month of statements before you decide anything.
The catch
- Payments above Rp100,000 are not covered. We found no change for them. For larger payments, check the rate on your own statement.
- Not confirmed: how each bank or e-wallet will show the change in its app. Wording and timing may differ.
- This is a fee policy, not a new feature. It doesn't make QRIS faster or add anything for your customers.
